arcticle about blood groupings @ http://nobelprize.org/educational/medicine/landsteiner/readmore.html
Summary:Experiments with blood transfusions, the transfer of blood or blood components into a person's blood stream, have been carried out for hundreds of years. Many patients have died and it was not until 1901, when the Austrian Karl Landsteiner discovered human blood groups, that blood transfusions became safer.
Mixing blood from two individuals can lead to blood clumping or agglutination. The clumped red cells can crack and cause toxic reactions. Trenthis can have fatal consequences. Karl Landsteiner discovered that blood clumping was an immunological reaction which occurs when the receiver of a blood transfusion has antibodies against the donor blood cells.
pros: This can ensure not every person can donate blood to a certain person, this also ensure that the person who donates blood have the same type of blood, this can save people life
cons:Not everybody can donates blood to certain people, patient must wait for a period of time to find the right donor, this also minimise the chance the patient can get save
Reflection: After reading this arcticle i realise that not all peope can donate blood to certain people, they must have the same blood groupings in order to do so.But one thing i still don't understand is why must it be the same blood in order to donates blood to that certain person? Why can't people from different blood grouping donates to that person? After reading i finally know why some patient have to wait for a period of time in order to find a right donor instead of being treated immeditely. As we have not learnt this topic yet hence i have some difficulties while reading this article, so i had to keep asking my mom and dad for support in order to finish reading this article. I also learn that different people have different blood groupings even twins might not have the same blood groupings. I also think that doctor should keep some sample of each type of blood groupings to deal with emergency cases instead of waiting for donors to donate blood during emergency, so as to minimise the risk of losing life due to not being treated or due to not getting blood in time.
